Achoimre:Whether due to the sui generis of his narrative or his tormented biography, Pablo Palacio is still considered the great abnormal of Ecuadorian literature. However, it is possible to read Palacio’s work as an admirably lucid reflection on the processes of construction of “truth” and “reality” in his society, as well as, more particularly, the production of identities marked as specifically “abnormal” by such discourses of “truth” and “reality.” In this article we reread the stories “Un hombre muerto a puntapiés” and “El antropófago”, as well as two of Palacio’s philosophical texts, to look for new meanings to the famous programmatic slogan of the author: “the discrediting of present realities”.
