Shrnutí:The article explores the use of the figure of the king during the indigenous uprisings that took place in La Paz at the end of the eighteenth century. On the basis of a report on the uprising, it gives an account of the arguments of the insurgents, who assured that they were acting at the king’s behest, a claim that allowed them to intervene in colonial politics. At the same time, royalist officials pardoned the uprising also using the figure of the king, to whom the insurgents had to vow allegiance and obedience. The incident made it possible to analyze both the pragmatic aspect of the delegation of royal power, as well as the symbolic use.
