Achoimre: | This action research study aimed at establishing the impact of an adapted 4/3/2 speaking technique on students’ fluency and self-confidence. The research sample consisted of 20 students whose proficiency level was A2. The study took place in a private English language school on the coast of Ecuador, South America. Results from the quantitative data gathering (pre and posttests) yielded a large effect size (1.27) which revealed that the adaptation of the 4/3/2 speaking technique had a favorable impact on students’ speaking fluency. Results from qualitative data gathered (interviews and field notes) showed a promising impact on students’ self-confidence. The students’ perspectives towards the implementation of the speaking technique in the class indicated that it helped them to improve their self-confidence when trying to develop a speaking activity in the class. Besides the results obtained, further investigation with a larger sample for and longer period is needed |
