Description
Summary:This research aims to analyze the efficacy of the music therapy technique, as a nonpharmacological alternative to reduce levels of anxiety and depression of individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease in mild to moderate stages, through the collection and analysis of scientific articles related to the subject. The research methodology was bibliographic type, where systematic review techniques and the collection of theoretical and experimental information taken from the findings of previously conducted research were used. The articles show results that demonstrate the predominance of the female gender with Alzheimer's disease with (68%) of the total participants. This figure is linked to the life expectancy of women, the degree of depression and their level of anxiety which is mild in most of the studies analyzed. Finally, when discussing the subject regarding the efficacy of music therapy, we can argue that this is a non-invasive or harmful technique to individuals; when applied correctly and repeatedly, it allows reducing the aforementioned neuropsychiatric symptoms by increasing the tolerance threshold towards environmental stimuli that can produce stress and trigger behavioral symptoms; such as, frustrating situations that produce agitation and aggressiveness.
