Para lo cual se utilizó un enfoque cualitativo tomando como técnicas de investigación para recolectar información, la observación y la entrevista. Para identificar la oferta deportiva se usó la clasificación de espacios deportivos de Molina et al. (2016). La caracterización de eventos deportivos se hizo en base al concepto del Portafolio Approach propuesto por Getz & Page (2015) y la subcategorización planteada por Tadini et al. (2021). Y para el análisis de la influencia de los eventos en el desarrollo turístico se aplicó las entrevistas con el uso del programa Atlas.ti Web, lo que permitió triangular y analizar la información de forma organizada. Los resultados más importantes indican que Quito tiene importantes escenarios deportivos como el estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, coliseo Rumiñahui, coliseo Julio Cesar Hidalgo, los cuales cuentan con las condiciones necesarias para albergar eventos deportivos locales, nacionales e internacionales de diferentes disciplinas deportivas. Los eventos deportivos caracterizados fueron capaces de dinamizar la economía a través del aumento del gasto turístico antes, durante y después de los mismos. Fomentaron el intercambio cultural, la cohesión social y la práctica deportiva. Además, permitieron mejorar y adecuar infraestructura y servicios complementarios. Por otro lado, se resalta la importancia de involucrar la comunidad local para garantizar un evento organizado y seguro. Fortalecer el turismo deportivo puesto que a través de los eventos deportivos es capaz de aumentar la visibilidad y mejorar la imagen turística de la ciudad.This research analyses sporting events and their contribution to the development of the tourism industry in the city of Quito. For this purpose, a qualitative approach has been adopted, using observation and interviews as research techniques. The classification of sports venues by Molina et al. (2016) has been used to identify the sports offer. The characterisation of sports events was carried out based on the concept of the portfolio approach proposed by Getz & Page (2015) and the subcategorisation proposed by Tadini et al. (2012). In order to analyse the impact of the events on tourism development, interviews were conducted using the web programme Atlas.ti, which allowed the information to be triangulated and analyzed in an organized way. The main results show that Quito has important sporting venues, such as the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium, the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium and the Rumiñahui Coliseum, which have the necessary conditions to host local, national and international sporting events of different disciplines. These sporting events have been able to boost the economy through increased tourist spending before, during and after the events. They have promoted cultural exchanges, social cohesion and the practice of sport. They have also enabled to improvement and adaptation of infrastructure and complementary services.
