Se trabajó con dos variables de investigación las cuales fueron la gimnasia cerebral y la lectura. En cuanto a la metodología, el enfoque es cualitativo, con nivel descriptivo y una modalidad documental. El estudio se llevó a cabo en la Unidad Educativa Jorge Mantilla Ortega, con una muestra de dos docentes del área de Lengua y Literatura. La técnica que se utilizó fue la entrevista y el instrumento el cuestionario compuesto por 7 preguntas relacionadas a las variables de investigación. Con los datos obtenidos, se concluye que los ejercicios mentales y prácticos pertenecientes a la gimnasia cerebral, como estrategia, permitieron que el cerebro se mantenga atento durante la lectura y su comprensión. Por tanto, la estrategia posibilitó la comunicación entre el cuerpo y el cerebro mejorando así las habilidades necesarias de la lectura.The following research was raised as a main objective to describe the strategies that enhance reading in students of the first year of high school from the Educative Unit “Jorge Mantilla Ortega”. It carried two variables of research which were brain gym and reading. Concerning the methodology, is a qualitative approach with descriptive level and a documentary modality. The study was carried out in the Educative Unit Jorge Mantilla Ortega, with a sample of two teachers in Language and Literature. The technique used was an interview and the tool a questionnaire of 7 questions related to variables of research. With the data obtained, it was concluded that mental and practice exercises belong to brain gymnastics, as a strategy that allowed the brain to stay focused during reading and comprehension.
