Este sistema de almacenamiento también se denomina estantería metálica y sirve para ayudar a optimizar el espacio disponible en las bodegas, un rack se compone principalmente de puntales, largueros, riostras, conexiones, protecciones, placa base, anclajes entre otros, pues depende del producto y la logística que se maneje en la bodega. El sistema fue diseñado con perfiles laminados en caliente debido a las características particulares del almacenamiento, en este caso el almacenaje es destinado a una bodega de almacenamiento de camarones a una exposición de congelamiento. Se destaca además que Ecuador es un país con alta actividad sísmica, por lo que los racks tienen que ser sismorresistentes, así que el presente estudio también abarca la investigación bibliográfica de normativas y códigos nacionales e internacionales referentes al diseño sismorresistente de los racks. De esta manera, dentro del proceso de análisis se realizaron dos fases: en primer lugar, el análisis estático lineal el cual abarcó el análisis por distribución aproximada de las fuerzas laterales con el cual se obtuvo un diseño preliminar; y en segundo lugar, el análisis estático no lineal, el cual permitió verificar los niveles de desempeño de la estructura preliminar con las curvas de capacidad tanto para la dirección X como Y, de tal forma que se reforzó a la estructura para que sea más dúctil y responda de una mejor forma ante los diferentes sismos que puedan presentarse. Se destaca que este tipo de estructuras deben de ser diseñadas a fin de no colapsar, pues su colapso representaría pérdidas económicas y hasta de vidas humanas; es por ello que complementar el diseño con un análisis estático no lineal permitió conocer la representación aproximada del desempeño de la estructura.This technical study aims to carry out the structural design of a structural steel rack system for storage. The storage system is also called metal shelving and serves to optimize the available space in warehouses; a rack is mainly composed of struts, stringers, braces, connections, protections, base plates, and anchors, among others, as it depends on the product and the logistics that handled in the warehouse. The system was designed with hot rolled profiles due to the characteristics of the storage; in this case, the storage is for a shrimp storage warehouse with a freezing exposure. It also emphasizes that Ecuador has a high seismic activity, so the racks must be seismic-resistant; this study also includes bibliographic research of national and international standards and codes concerning seismic-resistant racks design. Thus, within the analysis process, two phases were carried out: first, the linear static analysis included the analysis by the approximate distribution of lateral forces in which a preliminary design was obtained, and second, the nonlinear static analysis, which allowed verifying the performance levels of the initial structure with the capacity curves for both X and Y directions, in such a way that the structure was reinforced to be more ductile and respond better to the different earthquakes that may occur. It highlights that this kind of construction needs to be built to last because failing to do so would result in financial losses and possibly even human casualties.
