description One of the most serious health problems in recent years, which has had a great impact on the world, is antimicrobial resistance. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has caused the early appearance of resistance mechanisms in bacteria. Pathogenic species such as Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, among others., Resulting to be sensitive to a small number of antibiotics, being denominated in this way as "multi resistant" bacteria. The objective of this research work was based on determining the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus in canines with pyoderma at the Animalopolis Veterinary Clinic Hospital, in Guayaquil, by means of the swab technique of lesions suggestive of pyoderma, in order to absorb with cotton those microorganisms that are present in the cutaneous lesions, avoiding in this way damage the samples at the time of collection and then carry out the transport of the samples to the Microbiology laboratory of the Faculty of Technical Education for the Development of the Santiago de Guayaquil Catholic University, where the isolation and antibiogram of the microorganism was carried out; during the period from November 2018 to January 2019. The applied study had a quantitative non-experimental design approach in canines of different ages, races and sexes. In addition, the variables were correlated depending on the type of diet, the patient's habitat, among others., With the presence of Staphylococcus, through the chi square test and its percentage of antibiotic resistance to oxacillin, by means of the formula of prevalence Obtaining as a result that, 60% of the pyoderma were caused by Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, of these 61.4% of the population, showed resistance to oxacillin, being older dogs, those with higher incidence. For this reason, it is recommended to perform cultures and antibiograms routinely, so that they do not continue to use antibiotic treatments empirically.

For this reason, it is recommended to perform cultures and antibiograms routinely, so that they do not continue to use antibiotic treatments empirically.
