| Summary: | The WATSU technique is a therapeutic tool within the branch of hydrotherapy which takes advantage of the absence of the gravity of the aquatic environment. This method consists of a combination of three-dimensional movements applied by the physiotherapist that together with a state of deep relaxation of the patient achieve in this delay the physical deterioration and improve the quality of life. The present work proposes to present the benefit of the application of the WATSU technique in older adults with musculoskeletal injuries to suggest a plan of therapeutic exercises before and after application of the technique at Dr. Arsenio de la Torre Marcillo Municipal Gerontological Center in the city of Guayaquil. The study has a quantitative approach with an explanatory scope and a longitudinal research experimental design. It was obtained a sample of 34 older adults with musculoskeletal injuries according to the research criteria; they were evaluated by the Goniometer test, flexibility test and the Lawton scale. The results obtained showed that by implementing the WATSU Hydrokinetic technique, it was possible to increase flexibility, increase joint mobility, improve functional performance and improve the performance of activities of daily life, so it is advisable to establish a program for the elderly of the Dr. Arsenio de la Torre Marcillo Municipal Gerontological Center. |
