Jaime Roldós Aguilera”School and proposing a viable solution for them. This thesis employed an action research methodology, and adopted the mixed methods focus for analyzing information. The quantitative and qualitative data was collected through an A1-level speaking test applied to 30 students, and an observation checklist applied to the English teacher of the institution twice. After analyzingall the obtained data, it was found that the students had poor performance on the grammar & vocabulary category of the A1-level speaking test. It could alsobe established that the elements that affected the pupils’ speaking skills were: The frequency with which the teacher used the students’ native language, teacher’s mispronunciation of words, lack of teacher’s voice projection, the use of inadequate methodologies, the lack of body language while teaching content, and time constraints. |
