| सारांश: | Diastemas are spaces bigger than 0.5mm between teeth, especially between central incisors, this are situated in the maxilla or mandible or both, but are more frequent in the maxilla, diastemas can occur for size disproportion of teeth in relation to the maxilla, pernicious habits, hereditary factors, and others. They tend to close when the canines and second molars comes out; however, diastemas can often be continued until adulthood. The objective of the study was to establish the prevalence of diastemas in definitive central incisors in individuals aged 15 to 35 years who are attended at the UDLA dental care center in the period evaluated. The participants who were considered for this study were people from 15 to 35 years old that came in November to be attend, it was found 717 people in the range of that age, of which 48 people presented diastemas. The data obtained were analyzed with the Chi square test (p equal 0.05). As results, it was obtained that only 6.7% presented diastemas, and the other 93.3% did not present diastemas, there was a higher prevalence of diastemas in the male gender with a percentage of 60.4% while the female gender was 39, 6%, the age range that was presented with the highest incidence was 21 to 24 years with a percentage of 37.5%, and the age range that presented the lowest incidence was 25 to 29 years with a percentage of 16.7 %. Regarding the classification according to the size, 77.1% of the evaluated ones presented small diastemas and 22.9% corresponded to medium diastemas; no data were obtained regarding large diastemas. It is concluded that the prevalence of diastemas in the population is not very big, however, it must be taken to prevent the development of diseases that these can bring. |
