| Izvleček: | The present study consisted in evaluating the radon concentration (Rn222) in buildings of the Historical Center of the city Quito - Ecuador and determining the dose rate; the determination of the effective annual dose, critical points and the surface area covered by each type of construction material were taken into account through correlations of the different analyzed sites. The technical standards of the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) and those of the RAD7 equipment were used. The monitoring was carried out during the months of March, April and May of the year 2018. The equipment used was the radon active detector RAD7 that provides data every 30 minutes during the 24-hour period, this equipment incorporates an electrostatic field measuring camera, which shows the descendants left by radon (Rn222). The LUDLUM equipment was also used for Gamma and Beta dose rate measurements. It was found that the levels of radiation at the Church of the Cathedral of Quito construction is varied from 817 Bq/m3 to 1490 Bq/m3 and exceeded the permissible limits of radon concentration (Rn222) established by several international regulations such as the Official Journal of the European Union number 143 (400 Bq/m3), EPA (148 Bq/m3), OMS (300 Bq/m3) and OIEA (300 Bq/m3). On the other hand, the buildings of the Cathedrals Museum and the San Francisco de Quito Church are within the range of permissible limits for existing buildings. Through the RStudio program, the correlation of the surface area covered by the type of construction material and the concentration of radon was observed, concluding that the areas of greatest influence are in the Cathedrals Church. |
