The focus of this research is quantitative, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. Scope is comparative and correlational between the sociodemographic variables of level of education, age and gender between clients who abandoned the therapeutic process with those who did not abandoned it. This study analyzed the information from an existing database belonging to a university psychological care center in the city of Quito. The results indicated that 51.3 per cent of the clients did not complete the psychotherapeutic process. The mean age of the clients who abandoned the process was 32 year, no significant gender differences were found between those that abandoned and those who do not abandoned the process, clients who has achieved high school level of education were those that abandoned the most. The logistic regression indicated that none of the variables significantly predicted the abandonment of the process. Therapeutic abandonment it is considered a problem because of the high percentage of dropouts that reflect this and other investigations. That is why there should be more studies that show analysis of other variables like therapeutic alliance and adherence. |

La importancia de este estudio recae en el vacío de conocimiento que se tiene de esta problemática en el país e intenta responder a la duda de si existen diferencias entre los consultantes que abandonan el proceso terapéutico con los que no abandonan el proceso terapéutico. El objetivo general del presente estudio es identificar las variables sociodemográficas que están relacionadas con el abandono terapéutico en población adulta que asistió a un proceso en un centro de atención psicológica, para después describir las variables y contrastar las mismas entre los consultantes que abandonan el proceso terapéutico con los que no. El enfoque de esta investigación es cuantitativo, con un diseño no experimental y de corte transversal. El alcance es de tipo correlacional y comparativo entre las variables sociodemográficas de nivel de escolaridad, edad y género entre consultantes que abandonaron el proceso terapéutico con los que no abandonaron. Para esto se utilizó una base de datos existente perteneciente a un centro de psicología aplicada de la ciudad de Quito. Los resultados mostraron que el 51.34 por ciento de los consultantes no completaron el proceso terapéutico. La media de edad de las personas que abandonan el proceso terapéutico se encuentra cercana a los 32 años, no existen diferencias significativas de género entre las personas que abandonan o no el proceso de terapia y las personas con instrucción secundaria son las que más abandonan el proceso terapéutico. Sin embargo, al incluir todas las variables en una regresión logística ninguna de las variables sociodemográficas estudiadas predice el abandono o no del tratamiento.
