Crynodeb:The clinical significance of condyle-fossa relationships in the temporomandibular joint is a subject of controversy. Several studies have evaluated whether the position of the condyle is a predictor of the presence of temporomandibular disorder. The aim of the study was to compare the condylar position and joint space in TMJ in patients with and without temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) using Cone Beam tomography. Materials and methods: We evaluated 100 students of the UDLA School of Dentistry, both sexes, aged between 18 and 27 years. The Anamnestic Index of Fonseca was used in order to be able to divide the group into patients with TMD and without TMD. A sample of 50 patients equivalent to 100 joints were submittedto the Maglione-modified Helkimo Index, obtaining 25 patients with no dysfunction (normal and mild TMD) and 25 patients with moderate, severe I, severe II and severe III TMD. Cone Beam CT scanning with closed mouth and open mouth was used to evaluate the interarticular spaces manually using the method used by Ikeda and Kawamura (2009)…
