The present essay focuses mainly on the permanent members of the UN Security Council (United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia and China); their influence on decisions taken by the UN Security Council on the cases of the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and the civil war in Libya in 2011; framed by the realistic theory and focused on geopolitical, cultural and economic approaches that enables to understand the reasons for their decisions and / or omissions.
