Resumo:The project is about the use, intervention and change of the house of the former historian of Quito Luis Alfonso Ortiz Bilbao, which is located in the historic center of the Quito city, in the traditional neighborhood of San Marcos, between Junín Street and Luis Alfonso Ortiz Bilbao. It is currently managed by the CEDIME Foundation, (Center for Development and Research in Social Movements of Ecuador), who do not count with the economic conditions to give a good maintenance to the house, which due to the passing of years and lack of care, its materials, floors, walls and roof are deteriorating. Therefore, the change of use of Luis Alfonse Ortiz Bilbao’s house to a Museum House is proposed to rescue an important architectural space and special character of Quito. The Museum House will consist of new ergonomic and functional spaces, such as workshops, meeting rooms, thematic exhibition rooms, offices, cafeteria, restrooms, library and a handicraft shop, taking advantage of the Quiteña house. It was also proposed the creation of a glass floor for the second floor, the design of a panoramic elevator with a water fountain around it and finally to cover the central patio to take advantage of this area creating an open gallery and thus a space of relationship with the people who is visiting the museum, through the combination of old and new materials.
