La identificación de un producto potencial en Ecuador para ser protegido por denominación de origen: revisión jurídico práctica para entender el sistema. Caso específico tagua Manabí

Ecuador is blessed with one of the highest biodiversity in the world. The main reasons for that are its tropical location on the equator, the high Andes mountain range and two major ocean currents along its coasts. All these factors contribute to the abundance of unique and high quality process in our country. This thesis aims (is intended) to analyze the importance of the designation of origin in Ecuador. Existing cases and comparative law advantages will be analyzed to prove their advantages and to confirm that our country produces products having the necessary characteristics to deserve such protection. Through the analysis of the specific product Tagua Manabí, we come to the conclusion that this is a potential product that meets all the requirements to deserve the designation of origin in our country. In our work, we propose the Tagua Manabí to be declared as designation of origin by Ecuador. Taking into account that this typical product is part of our history, we could achieve its protection considering that its manufacture represents the livelihood of the most habitants of the Province of Manabí. The manufacture of Tagua is very important within the productive and socioeconomic system of our country. We are confident that the protection such as designation of origin, will be a key factor for its growth and trade value.
