| Shrnutí: | This investigations general objective consisted in evaluating the level of self-esteem related with the misplacement of the anterior teeth present in adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age. Therefore, specific objectives were planned like, identifying the existence of oral habits to relate them to the dental alterations, to determine the frequency of the oral habits that generate the dental malposition, and differentiate to what level their self-esteem is affected based on gender and age. To perform this study, first we elaborated a survey to collect the data designed for this investigation. Later, the Clinic of Odontology of the University of the Americas was visited, where the sample was made up of 85 adolescents (40.0 percent females and 60.0 percent males) between 12 (42.4 percent), 13 (36.5 percent), 14 (10.6 percent), 15 (4.7 percent), 16 (2.4 percent), 17 (2.4 percent), 18 (1.2 percent) years of age that were chosen previously and that required odontology attention. With the acceptance of the representative, examinations and photographs of study were examine of the adolescent, where data was recorder in the form. The oral habit that was present most frequently was that of biting pens (42.4 percent), in the same manner that these oral habits were conducted “sometimes,” with a percentage of 31.8 percent. On the other hand, the self-esteem with relation to age for adolescents presented a high self-esteem, while concerning gender, the majority of females presented a high self-esteem, and on the contrary, the males presented a low self-esteem. It was identified that the dentary malposition is produced by various factors like heredity, traumas, developmental defects, oral habits and pathologies. It is considered that the dental malposition can affect the self-esteem of the people affecting the relationship with others, apart from this is produces pathologies like dental cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis, halitosis, among others. |
