Nowadays, the amount of people engaged in handicrafts has decreased tremendously and it is only maintained as an inherited tradition. One example of this is the “Unión Artesanal de Masapán de Calderón”. This Union initially started with 50 members but currently there are only 20 left. The idea of the masapán figurines was born from the popular bread dolls, which are produced for the Day of the Dead holiday, on November 2nd.
