The literature suggests using as reference the facial shape to determine the original anterior teeth shape. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between the superior central incisors shape with the facial shape in the dentistry students of the Universidad de las Américas, Ecuador. Eighty volunteers were selected to which 4 photographs two facial and two intraoral to maxillary central incisors by the vestibular surface were taken to each volunteer. The different facial and upper incisors shapes where determined by Williams´s method. The obtained data was analyzed with the bivariate test and the chi square (p same 0,05). As result it was observed that there is a relationship between the facial shape and the superior central incisors shape, and the most predominant facial shape was first the oval shape (66,3 percent), followed by the square shape (18,8 percent), and the triangular shape (15 percent). In the meantime the most common incisor shape was also the oval shape (42,5 percent), then the triangular shape (32,5 percent), and finally the square shape (25 percent). In conclusion this study confirms Williams method by finding the relationship between the upper central incisors and the facial form, especially when exists an ovoide face form. The dentist can be based on the facial form to rehabilitate with artificial teeth.. |
