Shrnutí: | Population growth makes it necessary to implement more productive activities for the development and satisfaction of human beings, due to the linear economic model in which the country is located, there is an overproduction of waste or solid waste. To mitigate the effects that these by-products have on social, environmental, economic, etc. comprehensive solid waste management has been implemented. One of the most important impacts is the generation of leachate, potential soil and water pollutants. The objective of this study was to simulate the contribution of leachate from solid waste from the Rumiñahui canton to the DMQ sanitary landfill using the HELP water balance model and to determine which parameters influence their production. Two scenarios were proposed for the modeling, the first includes only the waste from the Rumiñahui canton and the second scenario also includes the solid waste from the Metropolitan District of Quito. The modeling results indicated that the contribution of leachate from the Rumiñahui waste represents 6.2 percent, thus being the peak daily volume of leachate in scenario one of 136.9183 m3 and the peak daily volume of leachate in scenario two of 2196.62012 m3. It was determined that of all the rainfall contributed, 28 percent infiltrates into the superficial and deep layers of the soil, 4 percent of the precipitation evaporates into the atmosphere as a consequence of the transpiration of the vegetation and finally 68 percent of the water that arrives to the landfill in the form of rain runs off. The model also gave results of the water that is stored with the potential capacity to become leachate and continue to come out during the following years, of all this volume of water, 3 percent corresponds to leachate product of solid waste from the Rumiñahui canton. |
