Summary:Generally, infants grow up in homes whose progenitors give them a proper attention to their needs through interactions based on affect and stimulation. However, there are children that, despite their young age, live harmful experiences of any kind, negligence and abandon, bringing as a consequence the separation of those children from their family of origin, being located in foster homes. The objective is to offer them a favorable context for their development. For it, this qualitative study was based on describing psycho-emotional conducts of the care takers to the infants in adoption centers, due of their close relationship with the children, becoming in their primary care takers. By the means of the behaviors and attitudes, care takers may have a positive influence in the risky condition of the children and provide them the security, trust, contention and protection they need to fully develop. The research methodology of this study counted on eight care takers from foster home in the city of Quito as a sample. They are in charge of children from 3 to 5 years old. Semistructured interviews were applied to the care takers and also field observations as a part of the research. The objective was to identify their psycho-emotional behavior and how these can influence on attachment relationships with the infants. Content analysis was used for the analysis of information, in which data was encoded through the creation of categories and subcategories. As conclusion, this study found that care takers from this foster home, respond satisfactorily to the physical cares of the children. However, they showed up inappropriate psycho-emotional behaviors according to the needs of the infants. As result, is necessary to train the care takers of the institution about the importance of their role as mother figures and primary care takers and look not only about the physical cares, but also the psycho-emotional needs of the infants.
