Efecto del xilitol en chicles para equilibrar el ph salival en niños de 7 a 10 años

This work is based on evaluation of changes in salivary pH children before, during and after use of xylitol chewing gum. Salivary pH compared with salivary flow before and after stimulation with xylitol gum, the level of plaque in the amount of salivary flow and salivary pH of children was compared. In conducting this exploratory research descriptively, a random sample of 44 people (total universe = 70) between the ages of 7-10 years were selected. The sample collection was carried out in the Fiscal Odilo School Aguilar city Quito Ecuador. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was divided into three stages: first, the level of plaque, initial pH, and unstimulated salivary flow was measured; in the second half, xylitol gum (2.5 g) was delivered, we proceeded to chew for 5 minutes, the pH was measured salivary and proceeded to the collection of stimulated salivary flow. The third time it started from 30 minutes of chewing gum with xylitol, and salivary pH was measured. RESULTS: were significantly modified, salivary pH increased with the use of xylitol gum and leveled up to 30 minutes; there was increased salivary flow. The relationship between saliva flow and its pH was very low. Finally, it was determined that plaque is not independently associated with salivary pH and salivary flow. CONCLUSION: The use of xylitol chewing gum on salivary pH increases slightly and maintained until 30 minutes after use.
