Opis
Streszczenie:The present project proposes as research question: which are the meanings nurses develop towards their everyday work experience, while performing their functions and relating directly with patients and their families, and while relating with other professionals members of their work team? In order to answer this question, semi-structured interviews were carried out with five nurses, that work at the Burn Unit at Baca Ortiz Pediatric Hospital, located in Quito. The selected participants were chosen according to inclusion and exclusion criteria; and, being this a qualitative, descriptive and phenomenological study, the data was analyzed with open coding and content analysis. There is little literature that approaches information about the construction of experience in nurses, being most of the found studies of European and Northamerican origin. Because of the increasing demand in public health services in Ecuador and the great amount of nurses, is evident the need of setting down those studies into the local context. It is known that working in burn units brings positive and negative consequences to nurses, and that these consequences influence their life quality, their professional performance and the relationship they establish with patients and their families. Being the infirmary staff a disregarded population, this project is proposed as the beginning of future investigations that approach in a deeper way the construction of reality and identity of nurses and other health professionals, belonging to diverse hospital units, and working in diverse hospitals of the country. This would constitute an attempt of improving the quality life of this group of people and health services that are offered to Equadorians.
