الملخص:In the present study, was evaluated the effectiveness of nine filters filled with activated carbon and ground pumice stone in different proportions for the adsorption of CH4. The filters were separated into two groups, the first one of 5 filters with 160 ml beds and material proportions of 100 percent CA, 75 percent CA-25 percent PP, 50 percent CA-50 percent PP, 25 percent CA-75 percent PP and 100 percent PP, the second group of 4 filters with 100 ml beds and compositions of 100 percent CA, 75 percent CA-25 percent PP, 50 percent CA-50 percent PP and 25 percent CA-75 percent PP. All filters were evaluated under laboratory conditions. The experimental units consisted of a biodigester, where the biogas was generated, a washing system to separate the CO2 and a filter, in which minor components of the gas mixture were retained. The results obtained, show that, the filters with the highest amount of activated carbon are the most efficient. The same way, it was evidenced that the ground pumice stone, facilitates the process of adsorption of methane inside the filters since it retains moisture. The best filter, with 160 ml and a content of 100 percent activated carbon, showed an efficiency of 76.1 percent, while the least efficient was the filter with a 100 ml composed of 25 percent activated carbon and 75 percent pumice stone with an efficiency of 9 percent. To demonstrate the feasibility of using these filters under real conditions and scale, a cost-benefit analysis was carried out, the results show that their cost is sustainable; reason why the filters can be implemented in the Ecuadorian industry, for its environmental benefits, as part of the institutional environmental policies and clean production.
