Summary:Acknowledging the lack of a reading culture in ecuadorian society, the target of this work became to apply strategies of editorial design and illustration to a manga styled graphic novel as a bridge to traditional literature, within permanent program of Ministry of Education: “Ecuador, un país que lee”. To develop such a project, design elements applicable to a didactic piece and educational needs of students of seventh year of Municipal Schools in Social Studies, Language and Literature signatures were identified. Through the selection of a topic in national history, the final product is introduced, whose main purpose is to encourage reading as well as supporting teachers in the instruction of Ecuadorian history and also, to strengthen the national identity of readers.
