Summary: | This paper examines the effectiveness of the application of affirmative actions, such as the Quota Law in the political sphere in terms of national and sectional elections in the city of Loja. It seeks to understand why, according to the political participation rates, men occupy leading positions, while women continue to be seen as “means” during political campaigns in order to gain acceptance and thus the votes, without exercising positions of power in decision-making. This analysis is executed mainly using feminist theory, with a qualitative-descriptive approach to the political situation of women in the country, and more specifically in Loja. This study finds that, it is determined that the participation of women is overshadowed by several socio-cultural factors that, at the same time, influence the political sphere at the time of elections. Additionally, the interviews which have been carried out, confirmed the above mentioned factors. Finally, it is concluded that despite affirmative actions in favor of women's participation, there is still a long way to go with regard to gender equality issues. |
