| Summary: | The current essay will establish the relationship between the right to work and the asylum seeker condition in Ecuador. In order to aim this goal, it will be analyzed if the Ecuadorian State accomplished with the national and international obligations that guarantee the right to work to this vulnerable group of people. Ecuador is one of the countries that has recognized over 65, 000 refugees over its history, according to official statistics. Therefore, it has the highest number of refugees in Latin America. The Ecuadorian Constitution recognized refugees the same rights as to their own citizens. Due to this, the Ecuadorian State has been in the commitment to highly protect all their human rights giving them specialized attention as they are considered as a priority group with high risk of vulnerability. However Ecuador does not assume the obligations under international law to respect, to protect and fulfil the right of work to asylum seekers. This happened because Ecuador does not have any domestic measures and legislation that can guarantee the right to work to this group of people as it is mentioned in the Constitution. |
