Sumario:Diplomatic relations between Ecuador and Colombia have deteriorated since the implementation of “Plan Colombia” by the Colombian government in 2000. This plan emerged as a response to the armed conflict that has aggravated in this nation recently. The Colombian government efforts to mitigate the conflict went beyond its borders causing problems between the two countries. In March 2008, during a Colombian military operation, the most serious incursion into Ecuadorian territory occurred. This breach caused the rupture of diplomatic relations and an announcement by the Ecuadorian government, about a possible restriction on trade relations.
