| Sumari: | Pneumothorax is very common in patients who have suffered chest trauma, when the pneumothorax is recurrent or persistent it does not always resolve with conventional treatments. This case seeks to provide a different therapeutic option from the conventional ones and by this way the doctors can save the lives of their patients. This case was made based on the CARE report guide for clinical cases, where the technique of the autologous blood patch used to seal the air leak in persistent pneumothorax is described. In the Haspital Veterinario Luckyl, this technique was performed for the first time in a Doberman patient named Alika, 1 year old, who had suffered a thoracic trauma due to a vehicular accident, where after the complementary examinations and their respective stabilization, she was diagnosed bilateral tension pneumothorax. After 72 hours of not having given the conventional treatment through fine needle punctures and pleural drainages with tubes of thoracocentesis, it was treated with the autologous blood patch, allowing this leak to stop in the following 24 hours. The patient recovered completely, did not present any complication to the treatment and currently enjoys an excellent quality of life. The present case is the first one that describes the technique of the autologous blood patch in Ecuador, it explains the clinical findings of the patient, the diagnostic methods that were used and the therapy implemented to solve the persistent pneumothorax. |
