| Riassunto: | Visual impairment consists in the loss of vision due to a variety of factors that affects people, making simple and common things really difficult, like oral hygiene. These people deserve the same opportunities to take care of their teeth, in Ecuador nowadays there are about 27359 individuals who lives with visual impairment, and the majorities of them are being discriminated and doesnt receive a proper dental care, resulting in the lack of information about their oral health and other needs. The following study consists in the comparison of oral health between visually impaired and sighted children, for this purpose it was used Silness-Löe plaque index, Silness-Löe gingival index, DMFT index and dmft index, to help identify if there are major alterations in their oral health. The results are clear, visually impaired children has major alterations, showing higher levels in both plaque and gingival index in comparison with the sighted children, the sighted group showed higher levels in the dmft index and both groups didn’t show any difference in the DMFT index. Also, it was used the ATP technique to motivate children to take care of their teeth with help of their parents and teachers so the message of oral health can stay in their minds, making a change in their lives, avoiding discrimination and other taboos. |
