Sammanfattning:The research focused on the study of cognitive functions during the didactic process to strengthen the learning of literacy in students of sixth and seventh year of Basic General Education of the "Adolfo Páez" School of the Bolívar Province, Echeandía canton. a study carried out during the year 2022, in such a way that its purpose was to strengthen literacy through the intervention of cognitive functions, which contribute to the improvement of the didactic process. The lack of diverse didactic resources, images, games, drawings, among others and with the use of tra ditional resources, does not allow students to develop greater interest in learning to read and write, therefore, it was possible to structure a proposal implemented with activities and didactic materials, with the purpose of motivating, helping to capture their attention, concentration, memory, stimulating the function of the senses to easily access the acquisition of capacities, abilities, skills and above all, favor the teaching and learning process for the student. The learning of reading and writing are intimately linked, because learning is more effective when we implant a child in an environment full of significant stimuli that involve reading and writing activities, thus developing the child's abil ities, since it is the base of later learning and motor of language, development of thought and intelligence. It is a learning process where the teacher will place greater emphasis, ordering various activities that involve literacy. The investigative work was qualitative, to obtain clear and visible results, descriptive, field, bibliographical research was used, which contributed to the col lection of information and clear data. The interview was applied to teachers of sixth and seventh year and students to know the shortcomings that they present, as a result 14 it was possible to observe that the students have little interest in reading and writing, in the same way the teachers have They have little knowledge about cognitive function
