Summary:The Characterize the technology and commercialization of balsa (Ochroma pyramidale) in the canton of Gonzalo Pizarro, province of Sucumbíos, identify the main technological components applied by the farmers of Gonzalo Pizarro, determine the commercialization chains used by the producers involved in this study, establish the benefit-cost ratio of the technology identified by the producers. The methodology used was: identification of the study sectors, survey, number of interviews, which was 120 respondents, use of the survey tool, collection, organization and analysis of the results, where it was determined that; The technology applied to the cultivation of balsa by farmers in the parishes of Gonzalo Pizarro, Lumbaqui and Puerto Libre is commonly traditional with a medium dependence on agrochemicals, in addition it was shown that there is a stable and constant marketing chain between producers and intermediaries, with the great limitation for the producer of the prices paid by the intermediary according to the quantity and quality. There is a high economic potential of this forest product, with a production cost of one hectare of balsa, according to the study parishes of $ 1941.50 with a net income of $ 9308.50 and a benefit-cost ratio of $ 5.79, which quintuples the investment, receiving $ 4.79 for every dollar. The balsa is currently the economic boom in terms of supply and demand, Ecuador being considered the first producer and exporter country with a high economic potential for those who produce it, being called by the media as the new gold of discord.
