Summary:The present work was carried out with the objective of establishing the need for postgraduate training in the field of nursing. Zone 5 of Ecuador. For this purpose, a quantitative approach methodology of descriptive scope and non-experimental field design was used, working with a population sample of 196 nursing professionals in Zone 5, 21 employers and 66 students in graduation process of the Career of the State University of Bolivar. As main results, it was obtained that most of the participants only had 3rd level studies, being graduates between the years 2019 to 2022 of the State Universities of Bolivar, Peninsula de Santa Elena, Milagro and the Technical University of Babahoyo, 96% of this participation indicated having the intention of continuing their studies at the 4th level. In conclusion, there is a need for postgraduate training in the field of nursing in Zone 5 of Ecuador, which is currently not satisfied due to different factors, such as the scarcity of programs offered in the field of nursing by the universities in the zone, high costs of the programs or schedules that do not meet the needs of prospective students. Therefore, it is recommended to develop graduate programs where the budgetary investment required for students is adjusted to the economic realities of the population, and thus promote academic development and specialization in the field of nursing in Zone 5.
