The following objectives were set: I) determine which are the existing breeds or crossbreeds of sheep in the Simiatug parish. II) Establish the phenotypic characteristics of the existing sheep population in the 12 communities. III) Identify the productive and reproductive parameters of the existing sheep breeds or crossbreeds in order to generate a genetic improvement plan. The statistical analysis was observational and descriptive. The situational study of the sheep population in the Simiatug Parish, Guaranda Canton Bolivar Province was evaluated. According to the results obtained, the survey determined that the community with the highest number of sheep was Pimbalo with 4383 and the community with the lowest number of sheep with 380 was Cruz de Ventanas. According to the breed, all the sheep evaluated in the twelve communities were mestizos, with differences only in Rayopamba and Pimbalo, where the Corriedale and Criollo breeds were found, respectively. According to the purpose of the sheep, it was determined that in the twelve communities surveyed the sheep are wool sheep, this was determined due to all the phenotypic characteristics presented. |

Se plantearon los siguientes objetivos: I) Determinar cuáles son las razas o cruzamientos de ovinos existentes en la parroquia Simiatug. II) Establecer las características fenotípicas de la población ovina existentes en las 12 comunidades. III) Identificar los parámetros productivos y reproductivos de las razas o cruzamientos de ovinos existentes para generar un plan de mejoramiento genético. El análisis estadístico fue de tipo observatorio y descriptivo. Se evaluó el estudio situacional de la población ovina en la Parroquia Simiatug, Cantón Guaranda, Provincia Bolívar. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos se determinó mediante la encuesta establecida, que la comunidad con mayor número de ovinos fue Pimbalo con 4383 y la comunidad con menor cantidad de ovinos con 380 fue Cruz de Ventanas. De acuerdo a la raza, todos los ovinos evaluados de las doce comunidades son mestizos, únicamente presentando diferencia en Rayopamba y Pimbalo donde se encontró las razas Corriedale y Criolla respectivamente. De acuerdo al propósito de los ovinos, se determinó que en las doce comunidades encuestadas los ovinos son de lana esto se determinó debido a todas las características fenotípicas presentadas.Guaranda.
