Methodology: qualitative approach, type of case study with phenomenological and narrative design, whose data collection was carried out through a semi-structured in-depth interview, prior to the signing of the informed consent, eight mothers of children and adolescents of the institution analyzed were selected, who met the inclusion criteria. Results: the mothers felt confusion and sadness when they found out about the disability of their sons and daughters since they never imagined having children like this, it was hard for them to accept the disability, they have not been victims of rejection, the caregivers have presented stress, musculoskeletal pain and headaches due to the physical effort they make when moving their children. Among the main care they provide are rehabilitation therapies, personal hygiene, food and clothing. Regarding family support, most of them receive economic aid, care and moral support. Conclusions: the positive and pleasant feelings on the part of the caregivers are joy, strength and satisfaction when they see that their children are able to do some activity autonomously, despite the physical and mental exhaustion they continue to provide care. Limited training for their care and that of their children with disabilities. Family support is not sufficient for the care of their children, as they have considered at some point resuming their studies, work and personal relationships. Key words: Care, disability, experiences, caregivers.Propósito: conocer las historias de vida de las madres de hijos con discapacidad en el Centro Centinelas de la Vida. San Luis de Pambil, Bolívar – Ecuador 2021. Metodología: enfoque cualitativo, tipo de estudio de caso con diseño fenomenológico y narrativo, cuya recolección de datos se ejecutó a través de una entrevista semiestructurada a profundidad, previo a la firma del consentimiento informado. Se seleccionaron ocho madres de niños/as y adolescentes de la institución analizada, quienes cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Resultados: las madres de familia sintieron confusión y tristeza cuando se enteraron de la discapacidad de sus hijos e hijas ya que nunca se imaginaron tener hijos así, les costó trabajo aceptar la discapacidad, no han sido víctimas de rechazo, las cuidadoras han presentado estrés, dolores de cabeza y osteomusculares por el esfuerzo físico que realizan al movilizar a sus hijos. Entre los principales cuidados que brindan son terapias de rehabilitación, aseo personal, alimentación y vestimenta. Respecto al apoyo familiar la mayoría lo reciben con ayudas económicas, cuidado y apoyo moral. Conclusiones: los sentimientos positivos y de agrado por parte de las cuidadoras son alegría, fortaleza y satisfacción al ver que sus hijos logran hacer alguna actividad de forma autónoma, a pesar del agotamiento físico y mental continúan brindando cuidados. Limitada capacitación para su cuidado y el de sus hijos con discapacidad. El apoyo familiar no es suficiente para el cuidado de sus hijos, pues han considerado en algún momento retomar sus estudios, trabajo y relaciones personales.Universidad Estatal de Bolívar.
