Resumo:Risk management involves complex social processes where all individuals and institutions of a society must act altruistically to reduce the negative impact that can cause adverse events of great magnitude such as earthquakes and fires. Local businesses that provide health services, including pharmacies, play an important role before, during, and after risk scenarios. For this reason, it is vital to detail the response capacity of these microenterprises that are beneficial to the community. In this context, this study focuses on the investigation of the response that pharmacies in the city of Guaranda can give to the threats that may arise, using mixed-methods research that generates qualitative and quantitative data. Through surveys directed to the personnel working in the different pharmacies of the city of Guaranda, it was possible to assess the knowledge, competencies, and skills, applying the diamond technique, the objective of which is to apply emergency preparedness and response to improve capacities in this case of pharmacies. The diamond technique is based on a color methodology for the identification of the threats that are present in an organization. This allows us to make an evaluation of the impacts that may have a threat that has been previously identified in parameters (high, medium, and low), so we will have 4 groups to categorize the evaluation by diamond, which serves as a basis for proposing strategies to strengthen the response capacity in case of an emergency such as earthquakes and fires, considering the standards presented in the documentation of the "United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
