| Summary: | Birth registration is the act by which the birth of a person is registered in the Civil Registry. This act is mandatory and its purpose is to guarantee the person's right to identity and nationality. The right to identity is a fundamental right of all boys and girls, regardless of their race, ethnic origin, religion, nationality or social condition. In Ecuador, birth registration is carried out in the Civil Registry office of the place where the boy or girl was born. The procedure can be carried out by parents, grandparents, guardians or any other person who has knowledge of the birth. If the birth is not registered in the Civil Registry within the first 60 days, the extemporaneous registration process can be carried out. In the event that the boy or girl was born abroad, the birth registration must be carried out at the consulate or embassy of Ecuador in the country where he or she was born. The Regulation of the Organic Law on Identity and Civil Data Management establishes that birth registration is a legal process through which the birth of a person is officially registered in the civil registry. This registration is essential to establish the identity of the person and grant them the rights that are inherent to them as such. Regarding the registration of a newborn by its minor parents, this can only be done if the minor parent(s) are accompanied by their legal representative. Keywords: identity, child, minor parents. |
