সংক্ষিপ্ত:The research was carried out in two sites in the town of Laguacoto III in the province of Bolívar, canton of Guaranda in order to characterize the soil according to its fertility index and suitability for use, in three agricultural strata. The objectives were i) To assess the quality of the soil in relation to the physical properties. ii) To evaluate the quality of the soil according to the chemical properties. iii) To identify the potential use of the soil based on fertility and suitability for use. Descriptive statistics were carried out, with maximums, minimums and general means to compare averages of the physical-chemical properties of the macro and micronutrient levels. To carry out the analysis, 6 types of sampling were considered at different depths, each with a transect (high, medium and low), with two different depths, the first at 0 - 0.50 m and the second from 0.50 to 1 m. According to the physicochemical analysis, it was shown that the soil of the town of Laguacoto III in the six treatments revealed a high predominance of sand particles. The average humidity recorded was 21.95%, indicating low moisture retention in the soil. This is because the soil texture is sandy loam, which facilitates filtration. This characteristic negatively impacts the photosynthetic and metabolic processes essential for the proper growth and development of plants. The chemical properties indicated that the agroecological zone under study presents neutral soils, with pH values ranging between 7.19 and 7.34. This means that the soils are within the optimal range for the proper development of crops. The highest organic matter content was present in treatment T6, indicating that this soil contains more micro and macronutrients for the growth and sustenance of plants. It is worth mentioning that plants absorb H2O, mineral salts present in the soil and in the OM through absorbent hairs. The identification of macro and micro nutrients was influenced by the level of erosion to which they were exposed and the altitude of the sampling area, which led to variations in nutrient content between the three transects analyzed.
