Descripció
Sumari:This research project was carried out in the community of San Pedro de Guayabal, located in the Chillanes Canton. This community has suffered a negative impact from ashfall and pyroclastic material (solid fragments ejected by the Sangay volcano), affecting agricultural and livestock production, as residents depend on it for their economic subsistence. The main purpose of this research is to develop strategies to reduce dependence on external entities, identifying factors that influence local vulnerability and the geographical characteristics of the study area. For this purpose, ASH 3D software was used to simulate ash deposition during the recent years affected by ash accumulation, corresponding to 2020 and 2021. Applying the methodological guide "Tool to Measure Community Resilience to Disasters" (HMRCAD), a survey was subsequently conducted among the heads of households in the community, obtaining validated results and indicating that the level of resilience is low, requiring additional actions. Emphasizing that the SWOT matrix diagnosed the current situation of residents, identifying strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats. This suggests developing possible measures to strengthen community resilience and improve the population's weak preparedness for future volcanic eruptions, ensuring the quality of life of future generations.
