| Resumo: | In the present research we proceeded to study the antimicrobial and antioxidant action of the essential oil of the rind and leaves of Royal lemon (Citrus limonum), extracted by steam entrainment and fractional distillation, therefore the objective of the research was to study two methods of extraction of essential oil of Royal lemon (Citrus limonum) in the Caluma canton. This variety of lemon is commercially unknown and there is little scientific evidence of its bioactive properties. To determine the bioactive properties (antimicrobial and antioxidant activity), the antimicrobial activity was evaluated with bacteria isolated from E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria and Arcobacter, in which it presents antimicrobial activity for the strains of Listeria and Arcobacter, For the antioxidant activity was performed by the Bleaching β-carotene method, which showed at a concentration of 50 mg/mL a value of 48.82% and at a concentration of 100 mg/mL a value of 47.29% peroxide sequestered, the essential oil of Royal lemon of the best treatment was characterized chromatographically and the Sabinene compound was identical in the peak of greater intensity. The essential oil of Royal lemon in the present investigation possesses antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. |
