Čoahkkáigeassu:The study on the socioeconomic impact of lahars and ashfall from the Cotopaxi volcano in San Agustín de Callo (Latacunga) analyzes the consequences of these phenomena in a vulnerable rural community. The local economy, based on agricultura and tourism, is severely affected by volcanic activity. The main objective was to characterize the hazards, measure the socioeconomic impact, and propose mitigation strategies. A mixed approach was used: quantitative methods to assess economic losses and material damage, and qualitative methods to understand community perception and preparedness. The research is based on theories of social vulnerability and community sustainability, identifying factors such as poverty, weak infrastructure, and low social cohesion that exacerbate the effects of the volcano. The results show losses in infrastructure, crops, and livestock, affecting the economy and quality of life. In addition, poor preparedness, a lack of family evacuation planes, and a lack of emergency resources were found. Given this, the proposal is to improve risk management through training, infrastructure strengthening, and updating contingency plans. This study is a key tool for designing public policies tailored to vulnerable communities, promoting resilience strategies in the face of volcanic disaster,
