Sumario:The objective of this case study was to design a Risk Management Model for forest fires in protected areas for the Fire Department of the San Miguel de Bolivar canton, an institution in charge of coordinating and providing immediate attention in the presence of a forest fire event, especially in the Cashca Totoras Forest. The research had a descriptive approach because it was possible to detail and characterize the different factors of the forest through the application of an observation sheet and structured surveys in order to collect relevant and significant aspects for the firefighting institution, while the exploratory approach allowed to become familiar with the research and those involved since the topic under study has not been addressed before and if it has existed sporadically it has not been treated properly in terms of causes and factors that affect forest fires. The results were processed in SPSS v.25 and Excel v.2019 software and the elaboration of maps using the Arcgis program. Regarding the characterization of the Cashca Totoras Forest protective zone, the land use and its behavior in terms of forest fires were identified. Then a SWOT analysis of the Fire Department was carried out to learn about internal and external aspects regarding its current state, in addition to the application of a survey that contributes to the research, with relevant information about the institution. Finally, guidelines are proposed as part of a risk management model for forest fires in the Cashca Totoras Forest protection zones.
