Shrnutí: | The following diagnosis treats about the implementation of a guinea pig meat slaughter plant, vacuum packed for small producers of Pastocalle parish, in the area of Latacunga, during the first half of 2011, aims to improve the quality of life, to encourage the association of small producers, the breeding of guinea pigs, in order to keep the necessary and appropriate volumens for the slaughter and selling in the market of Latacunga city. The research concludes that 91% of traditional producers have a smallholder basis model, affecting in the case of the subject of study to the breeding of Guinea pigs, because the area to feed grass is minimum, being alfalfa the main grass which is growing by the 45% of investigated producers. The 80% of farmers use small spaces to grow guinea pigs, reducing the area to 2 or 4 mt2, using in so many cases cages of wood without illumination, aeration and abundant moisture that damage the health of the guinea pigs. The generated data allow us to know that in the place there are 38% of adult animals who have an average weight of 1036, 51 gr., and their ages are between 4 and 10 months, with this result we could say then that the guinea pig breeding in the area have young animals and is able to be exploited in a better way. For the process of produce guinea pig meat also will see that in the study area there is a 13% of grill Guinea Pigs that are availability monthly, amount that will be offered to the grill restaurants and merchants in Latacunga city, established an initial demand of 350 animals. These parameters have been established that is possible to invest in a guinea pig meat slaughter plant, and that the producers want to deliver their animals and receive a fixed price that would be superior to the market price that lies between 4 and 5 dollars, depending on the weight and quality conditions. 17 The above provides a diagnosis that allows us to know the current situation of Guinea pig breeders to do or don‟t recommend the implementation of a guinea pig meat slaughter plant, which will have rules of sanitary quality, hygiene, and that will provide improvements in profitability to the producers |
