Summary:The production and marketing of hard corn is one of the most important crops worldwide, in the United States there is a yield of 361.09 tons corresponding to (36.56%), China with 215.50 million (21.81%). ); Brazil with 75 (7.59%), the European Union with 73, 96 (7.48%) and Argentina with 22 million tons (2.22). Corn is one of the most important items at the national level, where the provinces of Los Ríos, Guayas and Manabí are located, which account for a total of 77.34% of the harvested area, in the Pueblo Viejo canton the producers and intermediaries they are dedicated to this agricultural work for several years, which is recognized for its high contribution to the production and marketing of hard corn in the country. The issue raised in this research is, Assessment of the production and marketing of hard maize (Zea mays L.) in the town of Pueblo Viejo. The objectives were: are: 1 To know the actors involved in the production and marketing process, 2 Determine the technology used in the production of hard corn in the study area, 3 Identify the main marketing channels. The methodology used was through a survey and application of surveys conducted in modules; its analysis through descriptive statistics and the classification of data in an Office Excel database according to the requirements. The main results obtained are that 71% cultivate the De Kall 7088 hybrid; the months of greatest production are April, May, June; 94% sell the production to intermediaries; the intermediaries 73% are men and they market more with all the hybrids, 100% buy from the producers. The lowest price months are Apr, May and Jun; and of higher price Oct, Nov and Dec. Agricultural producers participate in the protection of soil, water sources and collection of chemical waste, have due protections at the time of applying fertilizations, 94% of producers do not perform crop rotation but 6% sow rice and soybeans, do not have irrigation systems due to their high installation cost, perform pest and disease controls throughout the crop cycle. 36% use 4-axis transport to transport the product to the different commercialization destinations.
