| Summary: | Through the investigation, the factors that affect the occurrence of landslides in the section of the Torneado road belonging to the San Miguel Canton were identified, since they cause considerable damage in the productive sectors, infrastructure, vegetation cover and economic losses. The landslide susceptibility index was obtained by applying the Mora Vahrson methodology through map algebra within the geographic information systems, considering an intervention of 500 m2 distance on each side of the road, within the entire intervention extension. of 23.6 km2 it turned out that, the low susceptibility has an extension of 1.8 km2 located in the middle zone of the road, low susceptibility an extension of 2.7 km2that is likewise found in the middle zone of the road, medium susceptibility an extension of 3.2 km2 being the lower area of the road and with the majority of extension of 6.61 km2, which represents 36.8% of the total extension, it has a very high susceptibility to landslides. This due to its homogeneity, among the most predominant the geological condition of andesitic lavas and volcanoplast tuffs in 53.39%, geomorphology a mountainous relief of 18.78%, the steep slope with 18.40% of 35°-45° inclination and 6.59% that correspond to forest and natural grass, finally the determining factor is precipitation with 23.60% with an annual average of 2500 to 3000 mm3 of rain and seismic accelerations of 0.40-0.45 g.
