Reconocimiento social de enfermería como profesión en Pandemia en la zona 5. Período agosto-noviembre 2021

Introduction: Nursing care is a health service that nursing professionals provide to society, with the purpose of contributing with their work performance to save lives and improve their quality, especially in these times of pandemic, where they have become one of the fundamental pillars within hospital centers and services. Putting their own lives at risk by providing timely care to patients with different pathologies, but despite this they have not received social recognition from society in general. Objective: To determine the social perception of nursing professionals in Zone 5, where the social recognition of nursing as a profession is evidenced in the COVID pandemic - 19 Period August-November 2021. Methodology: The research followed the exploratory quantitative approach, with a non- experimental field and cross-sectional design, taking into account the total population of nursing professionals who meet these established criteria is 1540, so a sampling process was applied. probabilistic using the Sierra Bravo equation and working with a sample made up of 308 nursing professionals who work in health institutions in zone 5 of Ecuador, using the instrument as a data collection technique which is structured in four sections: socioeconomic profile, social and work perception, perception of the importance of the nursing role and social perception during the pandemic; using Google Forms as a digital tool in your application. Results: it was determined that the majority of nursing professionals fulfill their social and work role, perceiving that they are valued positively by society; It was determined that the role in society is marked by the relationship with patients and their families, in addition, 91.6% of the nursing personnel perceive that they are valued in society as their work is recognized and positive comments are received. Conclusions: nursing professionals have a positive perception of their profession, having a good assessment of the importance of their work in society and relevance of performance among patients and families, ratifying the importance of nursing in society, in terms of their work performance in caring for patients during the pandemic, as the care actions offered are valued as important.
