To evaluate these effects, this research set three specific goals: 1) To analyze the effect of selenium on muscle fiber dimensions in broiler chickens, 2) To identify the effect of selenium supplementation on production parameters, and 3) To determine the benefit/cost ratio of the evaluated diets. The study was carried out in the poultry house of Mr. William Verdezoto, located in the Las Palmas sector, Chimbo- Guaranda road, using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three treatments, two based on the administration of selenium in their feed and a control treatment. The results showed that the treatment with 300 g/ton of selenium (T1) allowed to reach the highest average weight at the sixth week (1965.3 g) and a feed conversion (1.80), indicating feed efficiency. The histological analysis revealed that selenium did not significantly influence the width of the muscle fibers, but it did present changes in the area and significantly reduced their length, reason why the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Regarding the economic analysis, treatment 3 obtained the highest benefit/cost ratio with (0.55) meaning that for every dollar invested, 55 cents were recovered. |

Su uso, tanto en forma orgánica como inorgánica, ha demostrado efectos positivos en la calidad de la carne, la eficiencia productiva y la salud intestinal de los pollos broiler, al reducir el estrés oxidativo y mejorar el rendimiento general de las aves. Con el objetivo de evaluar estos efectos, la presente investigación se planteó tres metas específicas: 1) Analizar el efecto del selenio sobre las dimensiones de las fibras musculares en los pollos broiler, 2) Identificar el efecto de la suplementación de selenio sobre los parámetros productivos, y 3) Determinar la relación Beneficio/Costo de las dietas evaluadas. El estudio se llevó a cabo en el galpón avícola del señor William Verdezoto, ubicado en el sector Las Palmas, vía Chimbo-Guaranda, utilizando un Diseño de Bloques Completos al Azar (DBCA) con tres tratamientos, dos basados en la administración de selenio en su alimentación y un tratamiento testigo. Los resultados demostraron que el tratamiento con 300 g/tn de selenio (T1) permitió alcanzar el mayor peso promedio a la sexta semana (1965,3 g) y una conversión alimenticia (1,80), indicando eficiencia alimentaria. El análisis histológico reveló que el selenio no influyó significativamente en el ancho de las fibras musculares, pero sí presento cambios en el área y redujo significativamente su longitud por lo cual se acepta la hipótesis alternativa.
