Riassunto:Social networks are currently widely used by young university students, however, not all of them use it correctly, being the problem of addressing the influence of the use of social networks on the academic performance of eighth cycle students. of Basic Education. The objective of the study is to determine its impact on academic performance due to the hours spent on different apps, such as Facebook. WhatsApp, YouTube and Tik Tok and their inappropriate use that causes certain factors in the learning process. Therefore, the results of this study contributed to observe that excessive use has a negative impact on the academic performance of students. In the same way, it was possible to recognize that it has a positive aspect in students through the interaction and execution of academic activities. Social networks somehow have a fundamental role for their formative development, educational institutions must know them and make use of them for the benefit of students both in their training and in their personal development. There is no doubt that these platforms can help in teaching and are becoming a tool that improves communicative competence as well as activities. Furthermore, educating students about the proper use of these tools is crucial to include them in their studies when they carry out tasks that also involve the development, acquisition of skills, aptitudes or values, both technological and social, that is, the correct implementation and use of methods can promote both formal and informal learning through positive reinforcement.
