الملخص:The pancreas as an organ with exocrine and endocrine functions, tends to generate a pathology called pancreatitis, which consists of inflammation of this organ, and may be idiopathic, but among its frequent causes are food indiscretions, use of certain drugs, concomitant diseases and even racial predisposition. This research carried out at the veterinary clinic “Arca de Noé”, seeks to determine pancreatitis in canines older than 5 years, by quantification of pancreatic specific lipase, provide an early diagnosis and determine the prevalence. Given the diagnostic complication of this disease since it has multiple differential diagnoses, the quantification of pancreas-specific lipase is proposed. The results were analyzed by the Chi-square test and represented by tables and bar graphs. It was determined that sex and weight does not influence the presence of pancreatitis, not being so with age, type of feeding and body condition that contribute to a patient may suffer from this pathology, in which in the present study it is observed that there is a statistically significant difference, so there is a relationship between the predisposition of pancreatitis and the age, type of feeding and body condition of the patient. Food plays a fundamental role both in the process for the disease to occur, and for its recovery. In patients older than five years the levels of cPL are within the normal ranges, however, in asymptomatic patients an increase in its concentration can be observed. The prevalence of canine pancreatitis in patients older than five years at the Veterinary clinic “Arca de Noé” was 2%, so the diagnostic test cannot be used as a routine diagnostic mechanism for the prevention of pancreatitis.
